Diamond is the hardest naturally occurring material and presents extremely demanding requirements for precision processing equipment. For small-sized diamonds, nanosecond laser processing is commonly used.
However, as synthetic diamond sizes increase, conventional nanosecond laser processing can suffer from low processing efficiency and high material loss.
Watlaser Water Guided Laser technology confines the laser beam within a high-speed water column, enabling efficient and low-loss precision machining of diamond.
Watlaser has successfully processed a diamond sheet with a thickness of only:
· Thickness: 100 μm
· Cross-sectional size: 10 × 10 mm
According to publicly available information, this result was reported as the first of its kind in the industry.

The single-pass cutting depth is one of the key indicators of a Water Guided Laser system's capability for diamond processing. Diamond machining traditionally faces two major challenges: Low processing efficiency and High cutting loss
Watlaser’s independently developed Water Guided Laser technology can achieve:
· Single-pass cutting depth: 20 mm+
· Flip-side cutting depth: 40 mm+
The technology has reached a leading level in China according to the company's published information.
Advanced materials research increasingly requires precision processing technologies capable of machining hard, brittle, composite, biological, and wide-bandgap semiconductor materials. Conventional machining methods may introduce mechanical stress, thermal damage, material loss, or limitations when processing novel materials and microstructures. Watlaser Water Guided Laser technology provides a high-precision, low-thermal-impact solution for material research, specimen preparation, process development, and experimental fabrication.
